How to Get Recruited for College Girls Flag Football in 2026

College girls flag football is the fastest-growing college sport in the country, and most of its programs are less than two years old. RawRecruit lists 258 college programs across 37 states, and 74 of them start their first season in spring 2027. That changes the recruiting math: these teams need players now, and many have never had to cut anyone.

Because the sport is new, the usual signals are thin. There is no national ranking service, no camp circuit with decades of history, and no signing day. Coaches find players through high school and club flag programs, through film, and through direct contact. A clear email with your position, height, film and a reason you picked their school still does most of the work.

The NCAA lists women's flag football as an Emerging Sport for Women, which is a path to full championship status once enough schools sponsor it. The NAIA has run a national invitational since 2021 and sponsors the sport outright. Two-year colleges in California, Texas, the Southeast and elsewhere field teams under their own associations.

Every program we know of is on the college girls flag football list, filterable by state, division and aid. Today it holds 258 programs: 17 at NCAA Division I, 44 at Division II, 73 at Division III, 59 at NAIA schools, and 65 at two-year colleges. Programs that have announced a first season but have not played yet carry a "Starts spring 2027" tag on the list.

It depends on the governing body, and the honest answer for more than half of these programs is no. RawRecruit labels every program one of three ways, and never guesses:

May Award Athletic Aid. NCAA Division I and Division II schools and NAIA schools are allowed to award athletic aid for flag football. Allowed is not the same as funded: a first-season program may have little or no aid budget, so ask the coach directly. Today 17 D-I, 44 D-II and 59 NAIA programs carry this label.

Roster Spot, Academic Aid Only. NCAA Division III schools do not award athletic aid in any sport, and neither do California community colleges under the 3C2A. A spot on those rosters is a real roster spot, with academic and need-based aid only. Today 73 D-III programs and 20 two-year programs carry this label.

Aid Status Not Verified. Some two-year and smaller associations (NJCAA, USCAA, NCCAA and independents) are still writing their flag football rules, so we label those programs as not verified rather than infer an answer. Today 45 programs carry this label. When a governing body publishes a rule, the label changes.

74 programs on the list start in spring 2027, and dozens more played their first season in 2026. A coach building a first roster is not choosing between forty film reels; she is trying to find twenty players who will show up. For an athlete who has been overlooked in a crowded sport, that is the opening: a program that needs you this year, at a school you would attend anyway.

Look for programs where the coach was hired in the last twelve months and the roster page is empty or short. Those are the coaches most likely to answer an email this week.

There is no NCAA signing day for flag football yet, and the contact rules that govern football and basketball recruiting do not apply to an emerging sport the same way. In practice: most college programs play in the spring, a few play in the fall, and coaches fill rosters from the previous summer through the winter before their season. Junior year is the right time to start; senior fall is not too late for a first-season program.

When the NCAA moves flag football to championship status, a signing calendar will follow. This guide carries the date it was last updated, and the rules above are checked against it.

Email first. Put your position, height, class year, high school and club, a link to film, and one sentence about why that school in the first four lines. Attach nothing. Follow up once after two weeks. Film matters more in flag than in most sports because coaches have fewer other ways to evaluate you: route running, hands, quick-change speed, and flag pulling on defense. Ten good plays beat a highlight reel.
