College Recruiting Timeline 2026-27: Every Sport, Every Deadline

This calendar covers every major recruiting date across football, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's track & field, and women's track & field for the 2026 recruiting cycle. Dates are based on current NCAA, NAIA, and JUCO rules, which can change. Always verify with your specific division and conference.

No. Division I coaches have only been allowed to call, text and email a class of 2028 junior since June 15, 2026, and off-campus contact opens January 1, 2027. This season's signing dates, December 2 to 4, 2026, then from February 3, 2027, belong to the class of 2027. His own come in the 2027-28 NCAA calendar, which isn't published yet.

Most college football programs play below the FBS level. These are the national counts by division:

• Build the list now. Put programs from several levels in the table on it, not just the ones on TV.
• Email coaches yourselves. Athletes can contact coaches at any time. The rules only limit when coaches can reach out first.
• Get his junior film and grades in order. Coaches recruiting the class of 2028 will ask for both.

Where a class of 2028 junior stands today

The D1 column shows when coaches can first call, text and email. In-person contact rules differ by sport.

Division III has no binding signing date, and its coaches can make off-campus contact once a recruit finishes sophomore year. Girls flag football is an NCAA Emerging Sport for Women, and the NCAA posts no flag-specific contact or signing dates.

Spring Contact Period (April 15 to May 29, 2027): Coaches can have in-person contact with recruits and watch spring practices. Key time for juniors to get noticed.

Summer: There is no June contact period. Most of June is a quiet period, so coaches meet recruits on their own campus, at camps and on visits.

Fall Evaluation Period (September 1 to November 29, 2026): Coaches attend high school games. Seniors can take official visits from September 1. Senior year performance is evaluated in real time.

Early Signing Period (December 2 to 4, 2026): Division I programs, FBS and FCS, can sign the class of 2027 in this window, with a written offer of athletics aid rather than a National Letter of Intent. Division II football's Regular Period opens February 3, 2027, and Division III has no binding signing date.

National Signing Day (February 3, 2027): National Signing Day is when the NCAA's Regular Period opens for Division I and II football. Programs fill remaining roster spots, and each school sets its own final date. Strong opportunities still exist at FCS, D-II, NAIA, and JUCO levels.

Transfer portal: Division I players can enter the transfer portal during January 4 to 13, 2027. There is no regular spring window. Roster turnover can open spots for high school recruits.

NAIA: No recruiting calendar restrictions. NAIA coaches and athletes can communicate at any time.

JUCO: Check signing rules with each school.

AAU/Grassroots Season (March - July): The most critical evaluation period for basketball. D-I coaches attend Nike EYBL, Under Armour, Adidas events, and AAU nationals.

Spring: For men's basketball, April 9 to 30, 2027 is a Recruiting Period, when coaches can make in-person, off-campus contacts and evaluations. For women's basketball, April 23 to 25, 2027 is the April live period, an NCAA Evaluation Period at certified nonscholastic events only.

Summer live periods (NCAA evaluation periods): Men's basketball: June 11 to 13 and 25 to 27, 2027, then July 8 to 11 and 15 to 18, 2027. Women's basketball: June 17 to 19, 2027, then July 9 to 12 and 23 to 26, 2027. Coaches can watch in person but can't talk with recruits off campus. Many late-developing recruits receive their first D-I interest here.

Early Signing Period (November 11 to 18, 2026): Division I men's and women's basketball.

Regular Period (from April 14, 2027): Programs fill remaining spots, and each school sets its own final date. Division II basketball signing opens November 11, 2026 (the NCAA's date for all other Division I and II sports).

Transfer portal: Men's players can enter the portal during April 6 to 20, 2027. Women's players can enter the portal during April 5 to 19, 2027. There is no August window. Roster turnover creates openings, especially in men's basketball.

Cross Country Season (September - November): Primary evaluation for distance runners. State championships, Nike/USATF meets, and regional invitationals are scouted. NCAA Cross Country Championships in November.

Indoor Season (December - March): Indoor marks establish early-season recruiting benchmarks. State indoor championships matter. The NCAA Indoor Championships run March 12 to 13, 2027.

Outdoor Season (March - June): The primary recruiting season for all track events. State championships, conference championships, and national meets (Nike Outdoor Nationals, USATF Junior Olympics, New Balance Nationals) are the marquee evaluation events.

Signing (from November 11, 2026): Track and field signing for the class of 2027 opens on this date in Division I and Division II, and each school sets its own final date, so offers can still come after the outdoor season starts.

Key recruiting events: State championships (indoor + outdoor), Nike/USATF Junior meets, New Balance Nationals, conference championships. Performance at these events directly drives recruiting offers.

Junior year is the middle of her window, not the end of it. Basketball has an early signing period from November 11 to 18, 2026 and a Regular Period that opens April 14, 2027 and runs until each school's own final date.

What is realistic is a question with a numeric answer. She has been measured against the best players in her city. The relevant comparison is the roster she would actually join.

• Widen the pool. Beyond D-I there are 318 D-II programs, 429 D-III, 242 NAIA, and 621 JUCO schools. Coaches at those levels are still building 2027 classes well into spring.
• Get her marks into a coach's hands. Athletes can contact coaches at any time. Only the coaches are restricted on when they may reach out first.
