Six recruiting platforms side by side: RawRecruit, NCSA, SportsRecruits, FieldLevel, CaptainU and Hudl. For each one, what it costs, what you get free, and how your athlete reaches college coaches. The sources for every competitor fact are listed at the end of the page, each with the date we checked it. We built RawRecruit, so we have a clear bias. To counteract that, we've been deliberately fair in this comparison, noting where competitors genuinely excel and where RawRecruit has limitations. Our goal is to help you make the right choice, even if that choice isn't us.

What are good NCSA alternatives for a family that doesn't want to spend thousands?
NCSA doesn't publish its prices. Its membership page asks you to book a call with a recruiting specialist, and two third-party reports put its paid tiers at $1,320 to $4,200 (December 2023) and $250 to $2,100 (October 2025). Of the platforms below, four have a free plan and three publish their prices. Hudl's profile comes with your athlete's team.
What NCSA's MVP and MVP+ tiers add is a personal recruiting coach. If your family plans to write to coaches yourselves, that is the part you'd be paying for and not using.
- FieldLevel: a free-forever plan, then Silver at $29, Gold at $49 and Platinum at $79 a month. Gold and Platinum send your profile and highlight video to college coaches.
- CaptainU: a free Bronze profile. Silver ($22.50 a month) adds coach messaging with templates; Gold is $39.95.
- SportsRecruits: a free profile and target list, with Pro (monthly or yearly) for messaging. It joined IMG Academy, NCSA's parent company, in 2025, which is worth knowing if you're leaving NCSA on purpose.
- RawRecruit (ours): a free Prospect plan with Top 5 matches and one revealed coach. Varsity is $29.99/mo and opens every coach on your list we have contact details for.
- Hudl: if your athlete's team films on Hudl, the public profile comes with the team, and recruiters can find it.
Which recruiting services aren't pushy or overpriced, and what red flags should parents watch for?
We won't hand you a list of services to avoid. We can't sit in on every sales call, and a list like that goes stale. What you can check is how a service sells to you.
Start with price. FieldLevel, CaptainU and RawRecruit publish theirs. NCSA's prices and SportsRecruits' Pro price are not on their public pages, so ask for them in writing.
Then watch for these red flags. Most come from the FTC's advice on scholarship services:
- A promised scholarship. The FTC says legitimate companies never guarantee or promise scholarships. How to check: ask, in writing, what happens if no offer comes.
- Pressure to pay today. The FTC says only scammers tell you to pay now or risk losing out. How to check: say you'll decide next week, and see whether the offer changes.
- No total price. How to check: before you pay, get the full cost and the refund policy in writing, as the FTC advises.
- Only success stories. How to check: ask for at least three families who used the service in the last year, and call them.
- An NCAA approval badge. NCAA approval covers which scouting services Division I football and basketball programs may subscribe to. How to check: ask what the approval covers; it is not an endorsement for families.
Which recruiting sites actually help a realistic D2 or D3 recruit get in front of college coaches?
Start with the money, because it changes the search. NCAA Division II offers athletic scholarships, and most D2 athletes receive partial ones. Division III offers no athletic scholarships, but D3 schools award academic scholarships and need-based aid, so a D3 search is also a financial aid search.
We found no public source on which sites D2 or D3 coaches use most, so here is what each platform says about its own reach:
- SportsRecruits is free for every college coach, whatever the division, and Pro lets your athlete message any coach from D1 to D3 and NAIA.
- CaptainU says more than 10,000 college coaches from every division use its college product.
- NCSA's paid memberships let you message any college coach from D1 to NAIA.
- RawRecruit ranks 1,900+ schools by Fit Score, with D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO programs included, in football, basketball, track & field, and girls flag football.
Is there an app that helps parents organize college recruiting instead of a 40-school spreadsheet?
Yes, ours among them, with a limit to know before you move 40 schools into it. In RawRecruit, Saved Schools doubles as a recruiting tracker: each school moves through Researching, Contacted, Visited, Applied and Committed, on every plan. Varsity ($29.99/mo) adds a contact log for each coach and the Pipeline page, which keeps every contact, reply and next step in one place.
The limit: Prospect saves 5 schools, Varsity saves 25, and Blue Chip is unlimited. On Varsity, a 40-school list means trimming to your top 25 or keeping the rest in the spreadsheet.
Other ways to organize:

- CaptainU's Silver plan adds messaging templates and to-do lists. CaptainU alerts you when a coach views your profile or reads your emails.
- FieldLevel's paid plans show which colleges are viewing your athlete's profile and videos.

RawRecruit lists 25,000+ coach email addresses across football, basketball, and track & field, checked for deliverability, with phone numbers and social profiles where available. A free Prospect account reveals one coach; Varsity opens every other coach we have contact details for. You can also contact coaches through SportsRecruits Pro, CaptainU Silver and up, FieldLevel Gold and Platinum, and NCSA's paid memberships.
NCSA has run for over 25 years and is part of IMG Academy. Its MVP and MVP+ tiers include a personal recruiting coach. Its prices are not published, so ask for the full cost in writing before you commit.
SportsRecruits is free for every college coach and has a free athlete profile. It joined IMG Academy, NCSA's parent company, in 2025. Messaging coaches needs Pro.
FieldLevel and CaptainU both publish their prices. FieldLevel's coach contact starts at Gold ($49 a month); CaptainU's messaging starts at Silver ($22.50 a month).
Hudl is team video software first. If your athlete's team films on Hudl, your athlete already has a public profile recruiters can find.
RawRecruit's Blue Chip is a flat $249.99/mo and includes a 30-minute 1:1 call with Kevin Monangai every week. Kevin built the recruiting process his brother Kyle used to go from overlooked recruit to the Chicago Bears 2025 draft, and he played (Eagles, Vikings) and coached (Giants) in the NFL. Blue Chip is capped at 40 members because Kevin takes every call himself.
The Verdict
There's no single best platform. It depends on your sport, your budget, and how much of the outreach your family wants to run. If you want a personal recruiting coach, NCSA's top tiers are built for that; get the price in writing first. If your athlete's team already films on Hudl, start with the profile that comes with the team. If you already have a free SportsRecruits or FieldLevel profile, start there. If your athlete plays football, basketball, track & field, and girls flag football and you want a ranked school list and coach contacts at a published price, RawRecruit is free to start. Using two tools is fine. Paying twice for the same job isn't.
